Yuvraj wants to make a comeback before T20 World Cup - Cricket News Update
Indian World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh is on a speedy road to recovery as the 30-year-old has started training at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. The player has set sights on making it to the national team squad which will travel to Sri Lanka in September.
"It's a big achievement for me hitting the nets. I felt happy, really good to be in the nets,"
"And it was not a bad session, for the first time after about six months. I got tired after about 15 minutes but I am sure every day will be a better day, I am right now in the second week of rehabilitation and I am feeling good. My body will slowly become
stronger, I am sure,"
During the home series which followed the mega event last year, the Indian Test cap holder was diagnosed with mediastinal seminoma, a germ-cell tumor between his lungs and travelled to the United States for chemotherapy treatment where he was treated at
the Indiana University’s IU Simon Cancer Center, Indianapolis.
Now recuperating from the condition, the premier batter will be taking part in domestic T20 tournaments in a bid to prepare himself for the T20 World Cup.
The all-rounder believes it is essential that he doesn’t push his recovery and manages his training accordingly, despite fans’ eagerness to see him perform in national team colours. Training at Bangalore, the 30-year old expects to get back to form before
the T20 event begins in Sri Lanka.
"The target is the T20 World Cup, and hopefully, I will be able to come just before that," said the explosive batsman.
The left-hander is a widely renowned for his one-day prowess, but has been a part of all three formats since making his debut in 2000. With an impressive batting average of 31.50 in T20s, along with the ability to bowl effective left-arm spin, the left-hander
will be a valuable addition for the Men in Blue in Sri Lanka.
Other player, who is recuperating alongside Yuvraj is Ishant Sharma. The pacer has been out of action since last December after picking up an ankle injury but is also hopeful of making a return to the side in the near future.
