Yuvraj Singh thanks supporters, promises to return with a bang – Cricket News Update

Yuvraj Singh, India’s star batsman who is currently undergoing chemotherapy for a malignant tumor located between his lungs, communicated with his fans and supporters via Twitter this Tuesday, expressing gratitude for the “love and support” of the well-wishers, as well as the “prayers of my nation”.

This is the first time the 30-year old has spoken publicly about his condition. Ever since he was diagnosed with mediastinal seminoma (a rare type of tumor, which has a 95 percent cure rate), good wishes have been pouring in from all quarters. His well wishers include government officials such as the Indian Sports Minister Ajay Maken, the BCCI, teammates Harbhajan Singh, Sreesanth and Virender Sehwag, and countless fans who have flocked to the temples to pray for their hero.

The all-rounder said he was “overwhelmed” by all the love, and that the tide of “so many wishes” would be sure to cure him. He assured the fans that he had read all the tweets and watched all the videos made for him, and this has brought him great joy. "I will fight and come back as a stronger man cause I have the prayers of my nation!” he vowed on the micro-blogging site. "I'm recovering well. Yes, its tough but tough times don't last tough men do!" added the left-handed batsman, who is famous for his fighting spirit.

In addition to thanking fans, the Player of the Tournament at the 2011 ICC World Cup extended his warm thanks towards the President of the Indian Cricket Board, and the BCCI, for ensuring that he receives the best type of treatment available. He also used the opportunity to clear the air regarding his physio, Dr. Jatin Chaudhary, who has been blamed for the delay in Yuvraj’s treatment. “…it was my decision to go with alternative medicine," he tweeted.

Yuvi updated fans on his activities, telling them that he was reading the autobiography of Tour de France veteran Lance Armstrong, whom he was keen on meeting. He also expressed his desire to return to the field soon. “..And of course everyday I look forward to come back and wear my india jersey my india cap and represent my country again jai hind” he said.

The flamboyant batsman has been at the Cancer Research Institute in Boston (USA) since the last month, and is currently undergoing chemotherapy, which is due to last nine weeks. He begins his third week of treatment on Wednesday. The doctors have intimated that he will be ready to rejoin the team for training by May.
