Yorkshire v Durham - Friends Life T20 - North Group – Durham jab 142 runs – Live Score and Update
Durham 142/6 (20/20 ov) – Yorkshire won the toss and chose to field
Durham smashed an impressive tally of 142 runs for the loss of six wickets in their Friends Life T20 - North Group match against Yorkshire at Headingley, Leeds.
After being put into bat by Yorkshire, Durham had a nervous start to their innings as they lost their first wicket with nine runs on the board as opener HH Gibbs was caught by Ballance off the bowling of Sidebottom after scoring only six runs.
With Gibbs back in the pavilion, P Mustard and number-three batsman BA Stokes shared a superb partnership as they smashed the bowlers out of town, fancying their batting muscle without remorse.
Finally with 50 runs on the board, Yorkshire struck for the second time in the match as they nabbed the wicket of the wicketkeeper/batsman, Mustard, who was dismissed after scoring an innings of 19 runs off 14 balls.
Meanwhile, this was not the end for the batting side as JG Myburgh joined Stokes to help the team reach a nifty total that would leave their opponents in a spot of bother.
The two took the score to 72 runs before Myburgh lost his wicket on a tally of ten which was followed by the wicket of Stokes, who perished on a delivery bowled by MA Ashraf after bolstering an innings of 36 runs. At the time of his demise, Durham had scored a total of 85 runs.
With Stokes out of the way, the fielding side gained momentum and knew that the remaining batting line-up was not strong enough to stand against them.
Nonetheless, skipper DM Benkenstein and lower-order batsman GJ Muchall forged an out of the blue partnership to take the total to 122 runs before the partnership met its doom on the wicket of the skipper, who faltered after scoring 25 runs.
Meanwhile, Muchall stayed unbeaten as he hammered a 25-run knock off 24 deliveries to help his team amass a decent total on the board that would surely be good enough to defend once Yorkshire come out to chase.
