West Indies cricket team fined for slow over rate against Pakistan - Cricket news
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a fine on the West Indies cricket team because of their slow over rate in a Twenty20 match against Pakistan that was played on Thursday, April 21.
ICC match referee, Jeff Crowe, on Friday forced the fine on the West Indian side. According to ICC regulations, Darren Sammy, skipper West Indian, team will be fined 20 percent of his match fee while other members of the team will be pay 10 percent of their
match fee. The Caribbean side was one over short within the stipulated time in the Twenty20 match that they won by seven runs.
The West Indies are hosting a series against the Men in Green that consists of one Twenty20, five One-Day Internationals and two Tests. The hosts have started on a high note and will look to continue their winning run.
Sammy will be hoping to avenge the defeat that they suffered at the hands of Green Shirts in the ICC World Cup 2011. He has urged his side to show unity against the visitors.
He said, “We have to continue to play as a team, We created some great opportunities and we took them [in the opening Twenty20]. The batsmen gave us a good total to bowl at and the bowlers followed up well. The fielding was outstanding and you could see
the total commitment in the outfield.”
The skipper however warned his side that their opponents are a different unit when it comes to One-Days. He asserts that Pakistan are riding high on confidence after a good World Cup campaign.
He affirmed, “The ODIs will be a different kind of challenge. Pakistan is a good one-day team and is confident following their good showing at the World Cup in Asia. We have to keep winning the situations within the game and benefit from the opportunities
we create.”
The first One-Day between the two countries will be played on Saturday, April 23 at Beausejour Stadium, St Lucia. A couple of changes are expected from Pakistan. Taufeeq Umar, left hand opening batsman, may come in place of Ahmad Shahzad while Tanvir Ahmed
may come in place of the left-arm seamer Junaid Khan.
