Wesley Sneijder likely to extend contract with Inter Milan

Inter Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder has said he is due to renew his contract with the Italian champions, adding that Inter may have to bolster their squad in the January transfer window.

Sneijder, who was one of the best players at this year's World Cup after leading Inter to three titles last season, has been in contract talks in recent weeks.

Despite widespread interest in the Dutch midfielder, Sneijder told La Gazzetta dello Sport that remaining at Inter is his priority.

"I don't think there will be a problem closing the contract, but there would be many options if I decide to change my mind. However, the priority is to find an agreement with Inter and I think that will happen soon," he said. "The issue is that I'm no longer 20, but 26. At this stage of career I should consider everything that can happen."

Inter, who trail leaders SS Lazio in the Serie A by two points with three wins, two draws and one loss from six games, have been hit by injuries at the start of the season.

Argentine duo Esteban Cambiasso and Diego Milito are expected to return to action next month after sustaining injuries in an international friendly against Japan last week.

"Maybe we'll go on the market in January, who knows. We've had many accidents and maybe because of this we should intervene, but they are things that don't concern me, there are leaders who think about this. I see it the same as everyone in the club – injury explains many things, this is the common opinion."

Mourinho and Benitez can't be compared

Sneijder, who has scored two goals in eight appearances this season, also explained that he could not compare working under Mourinho and new manager Rafael Benitez, who arrived from Liverpool in May.

"With [Mourinho] I had a special relationship and I'm happy to have had him as a coach. He and Benitez are totally different, it is useless to compare them and (Benitez) is now developing a new story."
