  • Walter Mazzarri wants a win against Chievo Verona: Serie A news

The Partenopei boss urges the fans to play their role in helping his team to get back to winning ways.

Napoli manager, Walter Mazzarri, knows the importance of a win against Chievo Verona and urges the fans to back his side.

The Partenopei side will take on Domenico Di Carlo’s men in their next league game on Monday, 13 February 2012. Napoli have not been in the most consistent of forms, having failed to manage a win in their last five league matches.

Mazzarri insists that the game against Chievo is extremely important in terms of their progression in the league. The manager admitted to his team’s difficulties against the lowly-ranked oppositions, and insists that they need to take inspiration from their performances of the last season.

The Azzurri manager has demanded support from the fans, and believes that they can get them out of trouble in this difficult period. He believes that the only thing that his team is lacking from their achievements from the last season is concentration.

While talking to the reporters, Mazzarri said,

“The game against Chievo is the most important. When facing sides that are on paper weaker than we are, we’ve got to get back to those characteristics that enabled us to do so well last season. This is why I appeal to the fans, because in a situation where things aren’t going too well, the players are still giving their all.”

“Compared to last year, we have lost something – unconsciously, I think – in terms of concentration. If we see an opposition striker heading towards the goal, we tend to think a teammate will take care of him, so we concede silly goals.”

The 50-year-old has urged his players to get their act together and prove their worth’s to the club.

Napoli have failed to maintain a balance between their European and domestic commitments, and their progression in the Champions League has hampered their league performances.

Mazzarri’s men are positioned 7th in the league table after picking up 31 points from 22 matches played thus far. Their European campaign will recommence next week, as they will host Chelsea in the first-leg of the last 16 round of the Champions League.
