The Partenopei delighted to see his team return to their best form after the win over Lecce; refuses to comment on UEFA Champions League hopes
The Partenopei cruised to a 2-0 over Serse Cosmi’s men at Stadio Via del mare on Wednesday, April 25th. Goals from Marek Hamsik and Edinson Cavani propelled the Azzurri to climb to the 4th spot in the league
To make the win even sweeter for Napoli, their major rivals for the final UEFA Champions League spot dropped points in their respective matches. Lazio suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Novara, while Udinese lost 3-1 to Inter
The Vesuviani suffered a slump in form of late, and went winless in five matches recently. However, after two games on a trot, Mazzarri is oozing with confidence. The tactician is delighted that his team has found its lost touch
in the crucial part of the season.
However, the manager believes that there are still a few flaws in Napoli’s game, and they will look to eradicate them in the upcoming games.
While talking to the reporters, Mazzarri said:
“I am happy we have rediscovered our balance and unity. In the last two games we have been calmer and kept clean sheets, so this is good news. When we feel solid, we are able to avoid those silly errors, even without the ball.
We have worked hard on positioning from set plays, but above all the concentration of the players and it showed against Lecce, who have some very dangerous forwards.”
“The Napoli of a month ago is back, able to move the ball around and place vertical passes when necessary. There are still a few errors to resolve, but we will work during the week on these incidents.”
The Partenopei now sit only one-point behind Lazio, and have enlightened their chances of securing a top-three finish. However, Mazzarri refused to comment on his team’s UEFA Champions League chances, and insisted that he will
only talk about it when he achieves his target.
Mazzarri’s men face a tough task in their next game, as they will travel to Rome to take on Luis Enrique’s side on Saturday, April 28.
