Virat Kohli excited by his appointment as vice-captain of India – Cricket News Update

On Wednesday, February 29, Indian selection committee chairman Krishnamachari Srikkanth revealed the squad that will take part in the upcoming Asia Cup. Much to the delight of many, the young cricketer Virat Kohli was appointed as the vice-captain of Indian team.

Kohli himself was unaware of the decision and it was his coach, Raj Kumar Sharma, who brought the BCCI’s (Board of Control for Cricket in India) decision to the knowledge of the youngster.

Sharma said that the 23-year-old was fast asleep when he ranged him up to bring the good news, and after hearing the news the cricketer was naturally very excited.

“I spoke to him over phone and informed him that he has been appointed as the vice-captain of the team. He was sleeping at that time, but on hearing his elevation in the team he was very excited,” said Sharma.

Kohli’s coach further said that the 23-year-old likes to take on responsibility and is now even more determined to perform. Kohli has many admirers, people who like his ability and self belief and Sharma is one of his biggest admirers.

Sharma believes that Kohli has leadership qualities in him and can also lead the Indian side when the time is right.

He said, “Kohli likes to shoulder the responsibilities and he said the new role will inspire him to further excel his performance. He likes challenges. He has full faith in his abilities and is full of self-belief. I am confident that if he gets an opportunity to lead the Indian team he will do a great job.”

Kohli will be Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s second in command. Originally, Virender Sehwag was fulfilling this role but the opening batsman has been not been picked for the Asia cup, on account of injury concerns.

The tournament, involves India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and the host Bangladesh who kick off their campaign against Pakistan at Mirpur on Sunday, March 11. India’s first match will be against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, March 13.
