Vieira: New signings will get their chance
Manchester City midfielder Patrick Vieira has denied that Roberto Mancini's squad is too star-studded.
City have been the biggest spenders in the last two transfer windows, landing pricy deals for Yaya Toure, Mario Balotelli, Gareth Barry, Carlos Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor, among others. Just this year, City spent over £100million in the transfer window.
Following Chelsea's example
But Vieira, who returned to England this year after spells at Italian sides Inter Milan and Juventus, has denied claims that some of City's star-studded squad will turn sour in the absence of playing time.
"When you look at the Chelsea bench they also have a good team on the sidelines," the 34-year-old midfielder told the Manchester Evening News. "But if you want to go from the start to the end you need everyone, and for everyone to be fully committed."
Vieira also demanded patience from those of his teammates eager for first-team action, assuring them that their opportunity will come.
"Anything can happen in the first few months. 11 players will start the first few games, but there are so many games to play, in so many competitions. The team which starts will not be the team that finishes the season, so everyone has to get focused."
Shaky start may change lineup
City have had a mixed start to the season in which a resounding 3–0 victory over Liverpool was followed up by a loss to Sunderland in the same week. In the first game of the season, Mancini's men were held to a draw away to Tottenham.
The Italian manager has started with the same 11 players in the last two league games, but given the recent defeat to Sunderland, he may choose to make some changes ahead of Saturday's trip to Everton.
After all, he does have an abundance of talent on the bench.
