Venus Williams to play Family Circle Cup 2012 – Tennis News
Former world number one, Venus Williams, has confirmed her participation in the Family Circle Cup, taking place on Daniel Island. The tournament is scheduled to be contested from March 31st to April
1st, 2012. Other players that have already put forth their commitment to play the contest includes the likes of defending champion world number five, Samantha Stosur and world number eight, Vera Zvonareva.
Williams is returning to the Tennis Centre hard courts where she won the title way back in 2004. She will look to surprise everyone with some eye-startling display, especially after her successful comeback to tennis circuit
in the Federation Cup tie against Belarus.
Stating her exuberance on playing the tournament after such a long break, Williams said, “I’m very excited to return to the Family Circle Cup this year, especially because the Original 9 will be recognized for their significant
contribution to women’s professional tennis. The WTA would not be where it is today without their pioneering spirit, and I’m so glad to be a part of this celebration.”
It is good to see that she is leaving her injury behind and looking ahead to play professional tennis at the age of 31. She was severely suffering from a chronic disease, Sjogren's syndrome that kept her at the sidelines
since her US Open departure, last year. She is a great athlete and the love of game brought her back to the tennis world.
Family Circle Cup tournament manager, Eleanor Adams, was delighted to have the American onboard and stated, “Venus Williams is an undeniably accomplished superstar with a huge presence about her, and she is very loved by
our fans. She has such passion for the game, which makes it so exciting to watch her compete.”
She has lived a dream life in her 20’s. The achievements she made are only a dream for most of the tennis players all across the globe. She has gobbled up 43 Women Tennis Association titles that include 14 Grand Slam championships
in all categories. Her sister, Serena Williams is also a class act and they both clubbed several titles during their high-time. There was time when only these two sisters were witnessed playing every tournament and piling titles like anything. Williams Sisters
have earned almost $62million prize money in their career with Venus winning almost $28million.
It is good to see her back in action after such a long time. It will be better if she revives her supreme form and once again rule the world of tennis.
