Two of Arsenal’s new faces in team of the week

This past weekend Arsenal suffered a major blow in the form of a loss to Newcastle. In the match two of the team’s players seemed to have one of their worst games of the season. Lukasz Fabianski and Marouane Chamakh both seemed to be lost in the match and didn’t really have a sense of purpose while they were on the field.

It was ultimately thanks to a lapse in Fabianski’s keeping that lead to Newcastle scoring their goal. Joey Barton whipped in a free kick from near the half way line and Fabianski ran forward to try and grab the ball in the air, however the keeper managed to instead run into the leaping Andy Carroll who nodded the ball into the back of an empty net due to Fabianski rushing off his line. On the other end Chamakh seemed to be off his game as well, the striker was fumbling balls all over the place and was constantly left to look like he was a second grade striker, he was untimely substituted as a result and seemed to have walked off the pitch rather frustrated.

When both the players took the pitch this past Wednesday when Arsenal took on Wolves, they seemed to have a look of determination and a sense of wanting to perform to their best on the night. They happened to do just that once the game started. In the very first minute of the match Chamakh leaped to meet a cross from Alex Song and blasted it into the net with a signature header. While at the other end, Fabianski managed to make blinding save after the other and kept out Wolves for the entire ninety minutes of the game. There were moments when even the commentators thought Wolves would score, but the breath taking form that Fabianski was in, he managed to make some of the best saves of his career.

Just when the match was about to end, Chamakh managed to lash onto to another ball and slot home a goal in the ninety fourth minute to give Arsenal the two nil win and in doing so he managed to score his first goals away from the Emirates this season in the League. However apart from the goals Chamakh was quite brilliant on the night, he was being his physical self and constantly making runs and linking up with the midfield.

The displays by both the players were regarded so highly by the critics that they two went from being amongst the worst eleven on display this past weekend to stealing the spotlight and being a part of the best eleven on display during the midweek matches.

All the Arsenal fans, along with the teams manager Arsene Wenger will be hoping that the players can perform the same way for the rest of the season and if they happen to do just that, Arsenal might manage to finally lift some silverware once the season comes to a close.
