The Bayern Munich midfielder reckons that the Reds have a perfect opportunity to clinch the European title.
Toni Kroos believes that the Bavarian giants can win the Champions League in the 2011/12 season. The attacking midfielder believes that his side will be tough to beat in the competition when the action resumes in February.
Bayern have qualified for the last 16 round of the Champions League by finishing top of the Group A, despite being placed in the ‘group of death’ alongside Manchester City, Napoli and Villarreal.
The Reds suffered just one defeat from six games in Europe. However, the defeat did not have any impact on the group standings, as Jupp Heynckes’s men had already topped the group.
Die Bayern will now face Swiss outfit, FC Basel, in the knock-out stages. Kroos is confident of a victory over Basel, and is already eyeing a place in the final of the competition. The midfielder believes that Champions League
triumph in the ongoing season will mean a lot for his team, as the final will be played at Allianz Arena.
While talking to reporters, the 22-year-old further stated:
"Talking about the Champions League, you can't go 'we will win the title. Of course it's great that the final will take place in Munich. But I think you can't look beyond the next round. We know who we'll play in that stage."
"Apart from that there are enough top teams who could also say 'we want to win the Champions League. Nevertheless, we are confident that we can go far in the competition, you can't exactly plan to win it though." Kroos concluded.
Bayern came close to winning the Champions League in the 2009/10 season, but they lost in the final to Inter Milan.
The attacker has attacker has been influential in his team’s success so far this season, and has featured in each of his team’s 26 matches played thus far.
Bayern will resume league duties against Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday, January 20, while the Champions League action will resume in February.
