Tim Thomas, Tuukka Rask, both number one goalies for Boston Bruins and Claude Julien -NHL Update
Being an avid follower of the National Hockey League (NHL), it would be only but natural to consider veteran goalie, Tim Thomas, as Boston Bruins main goaltender after having led the team to their first Stanley Cup in over 40 years of constant trying.
Well, in Boston, it quite is not like that.
For Boston Bruins head coach, Claude Julien, both his goalie, Tim Thomas and Tuukka Rask are number one goalies and each have a equal spot on the team.
"We have two No. 1s", Julien said Tuesday, two days before the new season begins for Boston.
A rare feat in the NHL is having players who are comfortable in keeping each other on the same level and not wanting to be known as better than the other, but Tim Thomas proved that he really is a man who believes in sportsmanship in word and spirit.
"There are two goalies on the team, and we don't think of ourselves as No. 1 and No. 2", Thomas said. "If the team's on a roll and both goalies are winning, obviously you play both goalies".
After winning the Stanley Cup this year earlier in July, Boston Bruins made history and showed that hard work and dedication could literally take you anywhere you wanted. They are known for their blue-collar attitude, which allows for fans and spectators
to easily relate with them.
Even though Rask did not play nearly as much as Thomas played last time around, he certainly does understand that whatever works for the team at the moment is more important than personal interests.
"I'm not used to sitting on the bench a lot and not playing", Rask said. "But I realized that no matter what your role is, you've got to be one of the guys. I learned that support is a good thing for the hockey club".
Being only 24, Tuukka Rask still has a lot of years left in him, which could be termed as way beyond what Tim Thomas might be playing. Eventually Rask will take over Thomas and make himself known as their only goalie.
