The newly appointed head coach of the Nerazzurri was victorious in his first managerial assignment, with a thrilling
victory over Genoa at the San Siro.
There was a lot of pressure on Andrea Stramaccioni upon his arrival at the San Siro following Claudio Ranieri’s departure.
Ranieri had led the Nerazzurri to one of their worst streak of results, managing to secure a mere victory from ten matches, and
losing six of those matches in the process.
This streak of result saw the Beneamata fall to the 8th position, collecting only 41 points from their 29 matches and well behind
the pace of the European qualifying positions. Even though qualifying for Europe is a far cry for the Nerazzurri, they seem to have taken a step into the right direction.
Stramaccioni was the Inter Primavera coach before his promotion to the full team head coach, and there was some scepticism in
his appointment as the manager. One major factor was his age, as he is younger than the club captain, and whether he would be able to gel such high profile stars together in the team.
After securing the victory, a visibly delighted Stramaccioni was of the view:
“I think the most important thing is that Inter won. The fact it came in such a spectacular manner will please President
Moratti, as he did ask us to entertain him!”
However, the manager found areas where work was required. This can be seen from the fact that even though the team was 3-0 up
within the first 40 minutes of the match, they ended up winning the match 5-4.
Quizzed upon any relaxation after securing a victory in his test as a manager and whether there will be less anxiety involved
during the next rounds, he aptly remarked:
“Can I now play without the pressure of a result? I don’t think that’s possible in
Serie A! We are not drawing up any expectations or targets, but must take it one game at a time.”
While reflecting on the match and his substitutions, the Italian was of the view:
“The midfield has elements of real quality, as
Dejan Stankovic gave us tempo, but was struggling after the break, so I introduced
Fredy Guarin and Joel Obi who could help us during a difficult moment of the
game.”
Massimo Moratti would be hopeful that the Beneamata end the season on a good note, so that criticism directed towards him and
the club is reduced.
