Steve Finn hoping to fare better in the one-dayers - Cricket News Update
The young England pacer, Steven Finn on Wednesday hopes for a fresh start when the one day series against Pakistan gets underway at Abu Dhabi on February 13, 2012.
England on Monday succumbed to their first ever Test series whitewash at the hands of Pakistan by losing the third and final Test of the series by 71 runs.
The 22-year-old right-arm medium pacer, who was not picked in the three-match Test series against Pakistan, hopes that the one-day leg of the tour will provide him and the team an opportunity to avenge the Test series humiliation.
"I think this one-day series is going to be a great opportunity for us to put what's gone on under the carpet,” said Fin while speaking to media reporters on Wednesday. “I hope, moving towards in this one-day series, I am going to get an opportunity to show
what I can do," he added further.
The right-arm medium pacer, who was overlooked for the Tests in favour of James Anderson and Stuart Broad, admitted that he was frustrated at not being picked for the Tests.
"It is frustrating. I am getting very good at mixing drinks for the boys. I've sort of got used to it over the last 12 months. But it's not the sort of thing you enjoy," said Finn, who has so far played 12 Tests claiming 50 wickets at a startling average
He is the youngest English bowler to reach 50 wickets in the longest format of the game. Despite an impressive performance in the 12 Tests, the young pacer is continuously being overlooked by the English Cricket Board selectors. His last Test appearance
was against Sri Lanka in June 2011.
The 6 feet seven inches tall right-arm pace bowler said that he has toured the subcontinent a lot with the youth teams and has a fair experience of playing in subcontinent conditions and hoped to perform well in the upcoming one-day series against Pakistan.
To date, the lanky pacer has played 11 One Day Internationals and has 15 wickets to his name. The opening ODI of the four-match series against Pakistan kicks off in Dubai on February 13, 2012.
