Following the departure of Nolan Roux to LOSC Lille, Stade Brestois are now considering making a move for Manchester United striker Mame Biram Diouf whose future at the club remains bleak
“We will sign one or two strikers. We want to try to take players who do not play at clubs in Ligue 1 or Ligue 2 but players from abroad. We are looking at three possibilities,” were the words of Stade Brestois sporting director Corentin Martins.
The departure of Nolan Roux to LOSC Lille has certainly left a big hole in the Brest attack and the Ligue 1 strugglers are keen on replacing the striker who had always been keen on a move away from the club. the Bretons have now turned their attention to
the English Premier League where they are monitoring a player from the red side of Manchester.
Sky Sports claims that the Bretons are keeping tabs on Senegal international Mame Biram Diouf who is under contract at Manchester United until 2013.
The youngster’s pathway to the first-team has been blocked largely due to the superb form of Danny Welbeck, Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez. Such is the competition in Sir Alex Ferguson’s side that Dimitar Berbatov has struggled to command a first-team
place in recent months.
So far, Diouf has not made a single Premier League appearance for the Red Devils and has played just three Carling Cup games.
The youngster might consider a move to the Stade Francis Le Ble in order to get regular game time.
While talking to the media, the Senegal man himself admitted having come in to contact with many clubs.
“I have had a lot of bit nothing has been done so far. Brest may be interested but I have a contract with Manchester United until 2013.”
The former Molde man was recommended by ex-Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who is the manager of the Norwegian side. The youngster scored 45 goals in 86 games for Molde but has so far failed to realise his true potential at Old Trafford.
After scoring a goal on his debut, Diouf has failed to command a regular spot in the starting Xi so a move to Stade Brestois, albeit a loan spell would certainly help him in getting more valuable experience.
