South Africa Domestic: SuperSport Series - Warriors v Knights – Match Update
Knights 240 v Warriors 79/2 (25.0 ov) - Warriors trail by 161 runs with 8 wickets remaining in the 1st innings
On Thursday, February 09, 2012 Warrior in the four-day match against Knights trail by 161 runs with eight wickets in hand at stumps on the first day at St George's Park, Port Elizabeth.
Earlier in the day, after winning the toss, Knights chose to bat first as they aimed to post a challenging total on the board for their opponents to chase in the first innings.
However, they had the worst possible start as they lost their first wicket before registering a run in the innings with 21-year-old opener, Michael Erlank, having his stumps shattered on a stupendous delivery bowled by pacer Gurshwin Rabie.
With only 17 runs on the board, the side suffered the loss of their second wicket when number-three batsman, Rilee Rossouw, departed after playing a knock of 10 runs.
Having posted 22 runs on the board, the side suffered the loss of two wickets when Reeza Hendricks found his way back to the pavilion after scoring only 11 runs, followed by the wicket of Boeta Dippenaar on nil.
With wickets falling at random, the batting side were in all sorts of trouble and were looking to fall well short of a 200-run mark before Ryan McLaren and Johan van der Wath played with great character by hammering 74 and 79 runs to help their side amass 240 runs at the end of their innings.
From Warriors, pacer Gurshwin Rabie was the highest wicket taker with four wickets to his name.
With a decent total ahead, Warriors got off to a superb start as the openers Michael Price and David White gave their side a stand of 42 runs, before Price departed after smashing 17 runs.
With Price back in the pavilion, his batting partner White also followed suit as he fell after just 11 runs. The batsman found his way back to the pavilion after scoring 32 runs.
Warriors bolstered 79 runs in their first innings at stumps with JJ Smuts on 17 and Ashwell Prince on 13 runs.
