Knights 240 & 17/2 (4.1 ov) v Warriors 318 - Knights trail by 61 runs with 8 wickets remaining
On the second day of the ongoing four-day match between Knights and Warriors in the SuperSport series, Knights trail by 61 runs with eight wickets in hand in their second innings on Friday, February 10, 2012 at St George's Park, Port Elizabeth.
After posting 79 runs for the loss of two wickets at stumps on the first day, Warriors resumed their first innings with JT Smuts on 17 and AG Prince on 13 runs in bid to post daunting total in response to Knights first innings tally of 240 runs.
However, Smuts could only add one run to his overnight tally before finding his way back to the pavilion. The early loss of ace batsman was a big blow for Warriors, as they were counting on Smuts to steer their batting.
With Smuts off the crease, it was time for Arno Jacobs to forge a befitting partnership with Prince as the duo clobbered the bowlers at will, launching the first batting onslaught of the day.
The rude batting spree by Warriors took the bowling side by surprise as they were taken aback by the sudden outburst of the batsmen.
The batting duo ripped the bowling line-up piece by piece as they hammered the bowlers with almost utter ease and delight.
After taking the score to 192, the partnership finally came to an end when Prince after smashing a stylish knock of 60 runs was dismissed.
The fall of Prince’s wicket trigged a batting collapse as the remaining batsmen failed to play big knocks.
Meanwhile, Jacobs kept batting superbly and shredded the bowling line-up - leaving Knights in disgust.
The batsman clobbered a stupendous knock of 152 runs and played a vital role in helping his side end their first innings by amassing 318 runs on the board.
From Knights, Johan van der Wath was the highest wicket taker with five Warriors scalps to his name.
Knights suffered a disastrous start to their second innings as they lost two wickets in quick succession leaving the side with 17 runs at stumps.
