Titans 354 v Lions 248/4 (77.0 ov) - Lions trail by 106 runs with 6 wickets remaining in the 1st innings
On the second day of the ongoing four-day match between Titans and Lions in the SuperSport Series, the Lions trail by 106 runs with six wickets in hand in their first innings at Willowmoore Park, Benoni on Wednesday, December 28, 2011.
After ending the first day by posting 273 runs for the loss of five wickets, Titans resumed their first innings with Henry Davids and Albie Morkel in a bid to dominate the opposition by launching a belligerent batting onslaught.
The duo hammered 47 runs in the sixth-wicket partnership to leave Lions utterly flabbergasted.
Davids was the first casualty of the day as he lost his wickets after playing an astounding innings of 71 runs. At the time of his departure, Titans had amassed 315 runs on the board.
Morkel, then tried to bat for as long as he could, but lost his way after playing a resilient knock of 28 runs.
In the end, Titans amassed a massive tally of 354 runs on the board at the end of their first innings, giving Lions a daunting total to overcome.
From Lions, Eddie Leie terrorised the batsmen with his outstanding spin bowling as he grabbed five wickets.
Keeping the situation in mind, Lions needed to bat maturely in order to give Titans a tough time in the match.
Openers Stephen Cook and Alviro Petersen gave their side a stand of 181 runs as they clobbered the opposition all around the park, reducing them to rubble.
Petersen, then departed after hitting a superb knock of 115 runs, while his batting partner, Cook went on to stay unbeaten at stumps with 95 runs to his name.
Number-three batsman, Jonathan Vandiar, tried to provide Cook some support, but fell short after scoring just 23 runs.
In the end, Lions hammered 248 at stumps, nonetheless, they lost four wickets on the way and now need to bat steadily on the third day to post a daunting total by the end of their first innings.
