Cape Cobras 181/4 (20/20 ov) v Knights 119/5 (13.0/13 ov, target 120) - Match tied (D/L method)
On Friday, February 17, 2012, the third match on the ongoing MiWAY T20 Challenge between Knights and Cape Cobras ended in a draw at De Beers Diamond Oval, Kimberley.
Cape Cobras had amassed a staggering total of 181 runs on the board in 20 overs, however, their efforts were in vain as the required tally was reduced to 120 runs in 13 overs due to rain, forcing the Duckworth–Lewis method (D/L method) to come into play.
Knights exhibited great character and managed to post 119 runs in 13 over to tie the game.
Earlier, in the day Knights chose to bowl first after winning the toss as the sought to restrict their opponents on a small total.
However, the plan backfired as Cape Cobras openers Andrew Puttick and Stiaan van Zyl gave their a blazing stand of 83 runs.
The openers dismantled the Knights bowling attack and left the bowlers cripples right from the word go.
Nonetheless, van Zyl was the first causality of the day as he found his way back to the pavilion on 48 runs after losing his wicket on the penultimate delivery of the ninth over.
Owais Shah was the next man in, and he exhibited commendable touch with the bat as he belted the bowlers with great timing.
With 120 runs on the board, Puttick lost his wicket after playing a productive innings of 51 runs.
Meanwhile, Shah kept the other end and hammered the bowlers without showing any signs of pressure.
The batsman played a nifty innings of 45 runs as the side ended their 20 overs for the loss of four wickets.
Needing 120 runs to win in 13 overs due to the D/L method, the side failed to give a laudable batting performance as wickets kept falling at almost regular intervals.
Nonetheless, the side still managed to tie the match after losing five wickets, with Rilee Rossouw and Reeza Hendricks as the highest scorers from their side by smashing 29 runs each.
