  • Shinji Kagawa pleased with Leverkusen win

The Borussia Dortmund midfielder expressed his delight on his side’s 1-0 win over Leverkusen as the reigning champions maintain their lead atop the league table.

Shinji Kagawa has expressed pleasure on scoring a match winning goal against Robin Dutt’s Bayer Leverkusen and is confident that Dortmund will win the Bundesliga title. The Borussians played host to Werkself on Saturday, February 11, at the Signal Iduna Park with Dortmund winning by a slender 1-0 margin. Kagawa scored the only goal of the game.

The Japan international is delighted with his decisive contribution in the game which allowed Dortmund to stay two points clear of Bayern Munich, who also went on to win their encounter against Kaiserslautern.

Kagawa stated that Leverkusen made the scoring difficult for his side by defending solidly. He opined that the visitors were outstanding at the back, but is also disappointed at wasting a few clear cut opportunities in the second-half.

While talking to reporters after the game, the former Cerezo Osaka attacker further added:

“I'm glad I scored a goal that helped out the team. After that it was easier for us to approach the second half. I made some mistakes at the end, and it was a bit of a wasted opportunity. But Leverkusen's defence is strong and even their strikers were defending solidly.”

The attacker insisted that Dortmund should have scored at least another goal in order to make the win more clinical. However, he admitted that his side truly deserved the victory as they dominated the proceedings throughout the course of 90 minutes. He added that claiming all three points was very important as there is tough competition for the top spot.

"We should have scored another goal but we did a good job overcoming these circumstances,” Kagawa concluded.

As a result of Saturday’s win, the Westfalenstadion outfit are two points clear of the Bavarian giants atop the league standings, and will next be in action against Hertha Berlin on Saturday, February 18. The Borussians have also qualified for the semi-finals of the German Cup, and will face Greuther Furth on March 21.
