Shanshan Feng happy to finish in top 10 at Evian-les-Bains
Chinese Shanshan Feng, who recently stunned the golf world by winning her maiden major title at the LPGA Championship 2012, finished tied for the fourth position at the Evian Masters 2012 after she posted an
overall 274 on the leaderboard.
Feng was more than thrilled to see her name among big names on the concluding day, but she had to fight a nerve-racking battle to prove her mettle.
The tournament, held at Evian-les-Bains, France, not only featured a formidable field awash with almost all the top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) players, but also witnessed tough weather
conditions kept contenders in trouble throughout the four days.
Feng might not have clinched her second LPGA victory in France last Sunday, but she has shown her rivals that she is the player to keep an eye on.
Speaking to the media at the end of the tournament, the 22-year-old star said that she is happy with what she is doing on the course in the current season, as she has managed to improve her game greatly.
She said that she does not regret not finishing first because her aim was to remain in contention till the final moment of the match and find a spot inside the top 10.
Commentators said that the young prodigy has proved her critics wrong and most important of all, she beat the odds — something her rivals did not think of.
South Korean Inbee Park fired an overall score of 271 to grab her second LPGA victory. On the other hand, American Stacy Lewis and Australian Karrie Webb shot a 273 each to finish tied for the second position
on the leaderboard.
Feng shared that she has gained plenty of confidence due to the finish, and she will try to keep the momentum going in the coming tournaments.
“It feels amazing. You know, the last hole I made an eagle out of the bunker, and I think that's my second eagle of the year. I think that's a good way to finish,” the Chinese golfer said.
“The first day on the last hole I made a bogey, and then after the round I said to the media, I'm going to make it back on the same hole, and that's what I did. So I'm very happy”.
