Serena Williams works hard to make pre-ESPY event a success, Venus Williams steals the show
The Williams sisters are all over the news, especially in the sports section. It is odd when there is no mention of either Serena or Venus. These two stunning sisters have amazed the world, not only with their wonderful game of tennis but also with all they can accomplish off court. They are both extremely fun loving and there can be no social event which is loaded with celebrities without these two sisters!
Recently, Serena has been in the limelight for becoming the champion at Wimbledon 2010. This has been her thirteenth Grand Slam singles title and she is currently ranked number one in the world. She has two Olympic Gold medals and has won more prize money than any other female athlete in history.
Venus, being the older of the two, made it to the top in world tennis rankings before Serena. She was the first African American athlete to have made it to the top in tennis rankings. She has seven Grand Slam singles titles and three Olympic Gold medals. Currently, she is ranked number three in the world so she is not too far behind in the game.
Both Serena and Venus dominate the world of female tennis. When they play in their best form their opponents are helpless against them as they bomb away on court. As there is still time before the US Open starts, the Williams sisters are busy hosting events and working busily on their activities off-court. Venus is busy promoting her new book “Come to win”, which has been a great success for her and Serena is working endlessly on a new make-over.
As the Oscars take place every year for the celebrities in the film industry and there are the Grammys for the music industry, the sports industry is not far behind in hosting such awards. There is the Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly (ESPY) Awards for all the sports celebrities out there. These awards began in 1993 and they acknowledge the athletic achievements for individuals as well as teams and all other sports related performances during the entire year.
Many athletes take time out to relax and party during this grand event. Did we say party? The Williams sisters can’t be too far. This year just before the main ESPY awards ceremony, a pre-ESPY event was hosted by the glamorous tennis star, Serena Williams. She arranged a spectacular party which was attended by many celebrities including Vivica Fox, Eve, Lance Gross, Kim Kardashian, Selita Ebanks, Kevin Garnett and lots more. Basically anyone who is anyone was at this party as it was something which was not to be missed. Serena looked absolutely fantastic in an emerald green, strapless mini dress. Why wouldn’t she, it was her party after all. Serena Williams has the money and she is not afraid to use it when she knows it is going to bring the spotlight on her.
It was Serena’s party but wait why is Venus Williams’ name flooded all over the media coverage? Looks like big sis could not stand the fact that her little sister was getting all the attention. Venus wore a short white dress to her sister’s party, which would look good in a photo shoot but was not so practical to move around in. This was proven when Venus exposed a bit too much in front of the cameras. The media always loves a bit of a peek inside the lives of celebrities but a chance to peek inside their clothes is even better. The slip of Venus’ dress shifted the cameras from Serena to Venus instantly.
This has not been the first time Venus has flashed the audience. She was under this embarrassing situation once before also at the Wimbledon Champions Dinner in 2007. Maybe she is used to the occasional slip of dress that is why she did not mind showing off a breast again in public. Or maybe she was feeling the need of some excitement for herself as Serena was getting it all for hosting a remarkable party.
No doubt that the Williams sisters are competitive on court and will stop at nothing to get all the attention during a match. Who knew their competitive side is just as active off-court also and that they will stop at nothing to get into the spotlight.
