Scott Carson out of England match
Scott Carson has left the England squad which will face Bulgaria in a UEFA 2012 European Football Championship qualifying match tomorrow.
The West Bromwich Albion keeper has left the camp due to a family bereavement. It is possible that he will return to the squad before the match against Switzerland in Basle on Tuesday. He had missed out on training on Tuesday due to a back problem.
National team coach Fabio Capello has promoted Scott Loach from the Under-21 squad to replace 24-year-old Carson, but Joe Hart is set to start between the sticks in both matches.
Loach was previously called up to the senior squad for the 2-1 friendly victory over Hungary on 11 August — a match which Hart started. The Watford goalkeeper had looked set to play in the Under-21 side against Portugal in an Under-21 European Championship qualifier before moving up to the senior squad.
Striker injured
Tottenham Hotspur striker Peter Crouch has been ruled out of both matches after suffering a back injury but Capello will not call up a replacement for him.
Meanwhile, Everton defender Phil Jagielka and Birmingham City keeper Ben Foster have returned to training. Jagielka had missed training on Tuesday due to a swollen ankle, while Foster had been left out after suffering a knee problem. With both first-choice central defenders John Terry and Rio Ferdinand missing out on the clash due to injury, Jagielka looks set to start in the qualifier alongside Joleon Lescott, Gary Cahill or Michael Dawson.
Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard is also unavailable for the qualifiers as he undergoes an operation on a hernia. Other changes have been made to the squad which endured a dismal 2010 FIFA World Cup campaign as Capello has left out goalkeeper David James and defender Ledley King, while Liverpool veteran Jamie Carragher has ruled himself out of playing for his country again.
