SS Lazio President Claudio Lotito furious over defeat to Juventus FC – Serie A Update
SS Lazio President, Claudio Lotito, was left furious and agitated after his team’s 1-0 defeat to Juventus FC on Monday night. The Biancazzurri owner gave harsh remarks after the game, pointing out the mistakes committed by his team that have put the Aquile’s
UEFA Champions League qualification in danger.
While talking to the media after the game, Lotito expressed his disappointment with his team and also with the refereeing at Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
"I'm not accustomed to controversy and do not feel any air against Lazio. But I do take note of some decision in full view of everyone, but that is not mine to judge. It can happen at Lazio and some other team as well.”
“Did I mention a taskforce to oversee the games, but it was not an idea that was accepted. This is not to see if there are mistakes, but to understand how certain events occur, as it is very important to monitor the situation,” added Claudio Lotito.
Lazio had the advantage against Juventus as they were backed up by a lively home crowd. The Eagles dominated the game and retained possession well, creating as many as four clear goal-scoring chances, but legendary Gianluigi Buffon had yet another inspired
outing between the posts.
The first half went goalless and the second was going in the same direction until the 81st minute, when Lazio were reduced to 10 men on the field. Cristian Ledesma brought down Simone Pepe and was shown his 2nd yellow card of the match,
hence receiving his marching orders. Juve capitalized on their numerical advantage and Simone Pepe scored the winner on a pass by Luca Toni.
The loss to La Vecchia Signora has stunned the Biancazzurri, leaving their UEFA Champions League qualification hopes hanging by a thread. Lazio, fourth in the Italian top flight with 60 points, are just a solitary point ahead of Udinese Calcio, who have
been one of the most consistent teams in the Serie A this term. It will require a clean sweep by Lazio in the upcoming games in order to safeguard their place in Champions League the next season.
