Ronnie O’Sullivan appreciates Judd Trump after winning quarter-final: 2012 Welsh open
Former three-time World Snooker Champion, England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan has eventually booked his semi-final spot of the 2012 Welsh Open snooker event after grabbing a stunning victory against the 2011 UK Championship winner, England’s Judd Trump in the quarter-final
stage.
After claiming the quarter-final clash, the Rocket hailed Trump for his impressive game play during the event at the Newport Centre arena in Newport.
The Trump-O’Sullivan quarter-final clash seemed a topsy-turvy affair until the sixth frame as both potters went neck and neck but after that, O’Sullivan stole the show putting an outclass snooker display at the arena.
During the final frames, the Bristolian potter came across with a couple of chances to snatch the game when he was level at 3-3 with the Rocket but he failed both times.
In his first chance to dominate the game when O’Sullivan was leading in seventh frame, Trump had an open table before him but he missed on the pink while in the second attempt in the same set, he missed the opportunity on long red. At the conclusion of the
match, O’Sullivan appreciated Trump’s game play and admitted his brilliance.
“Judd's a fantastic potter, he plays differently to the other players and just when you think you've got the balls safe, he knocks in a long one,” spoke the 2011 German Masters champion to the World Snooker. “When he made it 2-2 I felt he had the momentum,
but then after the interval he seemed to be feeling the pressure and certain shots were not going in.”
The Wordsley potter added, “His breathing got a bit heavy, which I had not noticed before. Sometimes you just sense that your opponent is feeling it. That gave me the confidence to step up a gear. Maybe he felt a bit of extra pressure because he's been doing
well lately so he was favourite.”
The 36-year-old O’Sullivan also admitted that he was struggling to save his place in the top 16. The Essex Exocet has now set up his semi-final clash against the World Number one, compatriot Mark Selby. O’Sullivan has played Selby many times before and holds
a good track record against him in the past but still he needs to be on his toes to face Selby in such a crucial match.
