While speaking about the Argentinean skipper, Cristiano Ronaldo clearly told the press that he respects him as a great athlete but he is not his friend.
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are those players who are often compared by the football pundits and the fans around the globe.
The two are considered to be the best players in the history of the game and while Cristiano Ronaldo is busy scoring goals for Real Madrid, Lionel Messi plays for his rival-club, Real Madrid, and that is another reason why the two are always being compared.
The Real Madrid start and the Portuguese skipper, Cristiano Ronaldo, has won one FIFA Ballon d’Or award, while Lionel Messi has won three in a row.
Therefore, the two are also considered to be direct rivals to each other as they are once again competing for the ultimate individual honour this season.
Even though many think that the two hate each other because they are rivals on the pitch, both the players have often given out interviews in which they have suggested otherwise.
In the most recent interview, Cristiano Ronaldo spoke about his relationship with Lionel Messi and the Portuguese star clearly mentioned that he really respects the Argentinean skipper as a player and an athlete but the two are not good friends.
While speaking about the Argentinean maestro, Cristiano Ronaldo said:
“He is a great player, but we only have a professional relationship. I’m not his friend because we do not share the same dressing room, we do not go out to eat together.”
“I respect him as a professional, but we are not friends. We are colleagues and nothing more.”
Both the players are currently scoring goals at will in their respective clubs and that is the reason why they are easily the two best footballers in the history of the game.
They faced each other in El Clasico which took place last month at the Nou Camp and both of them were able to score two goals apiece in the fixture as the match ended 2-2 and Barcelona managed to maintain a 12-point gap over their arch-rivals, Real Madrid.
