Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken on his relationship with Lionel Messi, and clarified the fact that he is not friends with the Barcelona Forward.
The Real Madrid star has told everyone that he is not friends with Messi and that he has just a professional relationship with him just like everybody else.
The duo play for two clubs - Real Madrid and Barcelona - that have historically been rivals. And it is also evident how the two players are also rivals of their own since they always try to outdo each other and fight for supremacy in the Spanish Primera
Division and Europe.
He conceded how a great player the Argentine is and also said that there is no relationship between them beyond the football pitch.
"He [Lionel Messi] is a great player," Ronaldo told beIN sport. "I have a professional relationship [with him] like I have with other players.”
Despite saying he is not friends with the Argentine; Ronaldo also confirms that he doesn’t have any problems with the forward and that he has the utmost respect for him.
"I'm not friends with him because we don't share the same dressing room. I respect him like a professional. We're not real friends, just friends through our profession. There are no issues between the two of us.”
The 27-year-old feels that it is the media which always creates these issues. He believes this trend has been going for the past five years and that it is something that he has to live with since he doesn’t have any control over it.
"It's [issues being created] not just now, its been the same for the last five years. I can't control it."
The two players failed to score goals in their last matches in La Liga. Los Blancos won 4-0 against Zaragoza, while Barca defeated Celta Vigo 3-1.
Regardless of their rivalry and relationship status, the former world player of the year will be hoping to keep his cylinders firing all the time and help his side to retain their La Liga title this season.
Real Madrid are currently on the third spot and are still eight points behind leaders, Barcelona.
