Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed his delight on winning the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona. He stated that he is overjoyed with his first piece of silverware with the Spanish giants and scoring the only goal
in the match.
The clash was the second in four days between the two sides with the two legs of the UEFA Champions League still to come.
Real Madrid defeated Barcelona in the final of the Copa del Rey at the Mestalla in Valencia. The match ended 0-0 in the allotted 90 minutes and Ronaldo scored in the added extra-time from an Angel Di Maria cross.
The Portuguese international claimed that he was elated to have scored the winner in the match and pleased to win the Spanish Cup after so many years. Madrid last won the Copa del Rey in 1993 when they downed Real Zaragoza.
Ronaldo insisted that there are many more trophies to come in the near future and rated it a very important victory for Los Blancos.
“It is a great joy to have won and more so that I scored the goal to win the Copa [del Rey]. We had gone many years without winning the cup and we are very happy. This is an important trophy and we are enjoying it,” the Portuguese
international was quoted as saying.
The former Manchester United player was all-praise for the manager, Jose Mourinho. He stated that the Mourinho is a tactical genius and deserves the credit for his determination and hard work with the team.
The winger added that the tactician has had a very positive impact on the team since arriving in the summer from Inter Milan. Ronaldo also praised Barcelona for a great game.
“Mourinho has made a very positive impact. He has helped us a lot and injected us with positive energy, which shows [on the pitch]. Barcelona played a very good game, but this is the way it goes. The one who scores, wins,” the attacker
concluded.
Cristiano Ronaldo has had a brilliant season with Los Blancos and has scored a staggering 42 goals in 47 appearances with 13 assists.
