Qatar Total Open 2012 to feature five of the world’s Top-10 performers – Tennis News 

Qatar Total Open 2012 is just around the corner, starting the next day after the Fed Cup ties, 13th of February. The list of the 56 players who will be participating in the tournament is announced and some big names have made it to the competitive filed, especially the likes of world number one, Victoria Azarenka, who is going to fly directly to Qatar after playing a Fed Cup tie against the American team.

Belarusian tennis ace just won the Australian Open championship by demolishing the third ranked Russian, Maria Sharapova, in straight sets 6-3, 6-0. She will be accompanied by the former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, Wimbledon Champion, Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic, the US Open champion, Samantha Stosur and the defending champion of the tournament, Vera Zvonareva. The tennis fanatics will witness three different Grand Slam champions in action plus the addition of defending champion, making the tournament much more interesting than ever.

Nasser bin Ghanim Al Khelaifi, Qatar Tennis Federation President, was pleased to have such a versatile squad for his tournament and proclaimed her delight to the media in following words, “Qatar Tennis Federation is proud to host a field of such excellent calibre next month at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. With the world’s top-ranked players coming for the Qatar Total Open, we are sure to have some incredible matches and a very memorable week of tennis.”

Qatar Total Open has always been a very dashing tournament, featuring the most stunning superstars from the field of tennis. Tennis greats who have played and won this tournament include the likes of Martina Hingis, Nadia Petrova, Maria Sharapova, Monica Seles, Anastasia Myskina, and Justin Henin. One more thing which shows the importance of this event is that Women Tennis Association (WTA) has decided to promote this event to a status of Premier level. This will definitely increase the viewership and broadcasting of the tournament and will generate more revenue for the officials, which is always a pleasant aspect.

Tournament director, Karim Alami, was pleased with the announcement of WTA and stated, “The Qatar Total Open 2012 is a WTA Premier event this year and shows how important Doha has become on the world sporting stage.” It is the 10th edition of the tournament that will be contested in the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex, Doha. It will be interesting to see which of the seeded women has the ability to absorb the stress and deliver under pressure.
