Pune Warriors vs Rajasthan Royals – IPL 5 – Toss Report
Pune Warriors’ skipper, Sourav Ganguly, has won the toss and will bat first in their home clash against Rahul Dravid’s led Rajasthan Royal, being played at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium, Pune, May 8, 2012.
The Warriors have endured a disappointing run in this year’s Indian Premier League, and are currently second from bottom. They will need to win all their upcoming matches and hope that other results go in their way – a highly unlikely scenario to qualify
for the knock out stages.
They have made two changes to the lineup, which got defeated at the Eden Gardens stadium by Kolkata Knight Riders – spearhead pacer Ashok Dinda making way for fellow quick Ashish Nehra, while Anustup Majumdar has replaced Manish Pandey.
"We pushed him (Dinda) in the last two games, but he's got the A tour ahead, and is on the fringes of the national team, so he needs to get fully fit," Ganguly says.
The overseas position has been filled up by Michael Clarke, Steve Smith, Angelo Mathews and Wayne Parnell, which means there is still no debut appearance for Bangladeshi opener Tamim Iqbal.
Their opponents, the Royals, won their last game against Kings XI Punjab, owing to a good batting performance. After suffering a barren run, which included four losses on the trot, the Royals will be aiming to maintain their ascendency, following a thumping
victory in their last outing.
One change has been made to their playing XI, which sees Owais Shah replacing the injured Brad Hodge. The other places are filled by three Aussies – Brad Hogg and Shaun Tait providing stability to bowling lineup, while Shane Watson’s being used in the all-rounder
Dravid said he is happy with the Australian duo of Tait and Watson, both of whom provide added steel to their young lineup.
The pitch is expected to be full of runs, and will offer plenty of encouragement for batters.
