Porto star Hulk suffers ankle sprain during match against Uniao Leiria – Liga Sagres News
Porto’s star striker, Hulk, suffered an ankle injury during the league clash with Uniao Leiria and although the problem is not as serious as first thought, he will still be out for the weekend match against Uniao Leiria.
Hulk was called up for national team duty by Mano Menezes and took a brief part in Brazil’s friendly with Ghana, which they won 1-0. The forward came on as a late substitute for his country but was unable to make an impression due to lack of time.
Within 24 hours of the fixture, the former Tokyo Verdy man was back in Portugal and started the Portuguese Primeira Liga match against Uniao Leiria.
Although the Portistas cruised to a 5-2 win, they had to deal with a major blow as their main man limped off in the second half after suffering an ankle injury. After analysis, the club doctors ran some tests and declared that the sprain was not as serious
as first expected, however, Hulk would still have to undergo further examinations to ensure a quick recovery.
While the attacker is out for the next game, he still remained thankful that only his ankle was affected and he was able to avoid a longer spell on the sidelines.
"Now it is just about asking God that this is nothing serious so that I can be with the group," Hulk revealed.
The front man also narrated how his leg got injured in the first place and stated that he had been cleared by the club’s physiotherapist, who had also examined him.
"Edson landed on my leg and I heard a snap in my knee and ankle."
"The club's doctor has already had a look at it and said it was just the ankle,” the former Kawasaki Frontale man was quoted as saying.
Now out for at least the upcoming fixture, the true extent of Hulk’s injury will be revealed when he undergoes scans on Wednesday. Meanwhile, his absence will be another headache for Porto manager Vitor Pereira, who heavily relied on the Selecao International
to lead the line.
