Philippines rout Singapore 106-51: SEABA Championship 2011 Recap

Six players from Philippines landed double figures in scoring to rout Singapore 106-51in the third round of the Southeast Asian Basketball Association Championship 2011 on Saturday. The night saw Philippines win their third successive game of the tournament and with that, they also clinched the Finals berth.

Japeth Paul Aguilar posted a double-double with a team high 18 points and 15 boards to lead the way for the Filipinos. He also blocked 3 shots in less than 27 minutes of playing time. Andy Mark Barroca also landed 18 points and dished out 5 assists in the blow out win.

Singapore was led by their prolific point guard Wei Long Wong. He was the only player who posted a decent performance against the ferocious assault of the Filipinos. Wong finished the game with 20 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Sheng Yu Lim also scored 10 points for Singapore, who did not get more than 6 points from the remaining line-up.

Singapore never made any kind of impression throughout the game. Team Philippines headed out aggressively right from the beginning and never looked back. The starting five of Philippines displayed some tremendous teamwork in the first quarter and restricted the opposition to 9 points to procure a massive 21 points advantage.

The Singaporeans strived to retaliate in the second quarter; however the opposition showed no signs of retreat and continued to dominate the proceedings. Christopher Ryan Lutz and Aguilar carried the action for the Philippines in the second frame and amplified the lead to 37 points going into the break.

Singapore had some success in the third quarter when they outscored Philippines 20-17 to cut down the deficit to 34 points but in the larger picture, it didn’t make any difference on the outcome. The Singaporeans were pushed back towards the lowest performance offensively in the fourth quarter when they landed only 8 points as the Philippines sealed a huge 55-point win.
