PSG coach Antoine Kombouare on the verge of getting sacked – Ligue 1 news
According to L’Equipe and other French newspapers, French Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain coach Antoine Kombouare is on the verge of becoming the first managerial casualty in the Ligue 1 this season.
Reports suggest that the Kanak coach could be sacked before PSG play AJ Auxerre on Sunday. For several weeks, Kombouare’s future at the Ile club has been under a lot of scrutiny. Initially, former Chelsea and AC Milan manager Carlo Ancelotti was hotly linked
with the managerial hot-seat at the Parc des Princes. However the Italian refused to join the club and sporting director Leonardo was left with no choice but to keep the coach.
However, following three consecutive defeats, Kombouare and his players have not done justice to the coach’s precarious position at the club. a few days ago, PSG lost to Red Bull Salzburg in a vital Europa League encounter. The 2-0 lost has almost ended
the Parisians chances of progressing to the knockout rounds and Leonardo could raise the axe anytime now.
Club chairman, Nasser El-Khelaifi was reportedly infuriated after the loss in Austria and is desperate to fire the under-pressure coach.
Former PSG man, Claude Makelele was linked with the coaching job earlier this week and it now seems that PSG direction is trying to convince the French legend to replace Kombouare on the dugout.
However, the task of Makelele replacing Kombouare seems unlikely as a relative of the Frenchman said, “He will not take the place of Kombouare if there is a sudden sacking in the coming days.”
However, the PSG owners are still trying their best to convince Makelele to change his stance. The former PSG captain is a famous and respective personality among the PSG players both new and old. Though everything is still up in the air, it seems that PSG
directors have run out of patience with Kombouare who is fully aware that his position at the club might already have been compromised after the capital side performed so abysmally in their last four outings
It all started with a dull draw against Bordeaux. Since then, PSG have lost all their games which include a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Olympique de Marseille in Week 15 of the Championelle.
