Owen Richards of Castleford Tigers sanctioned for breaching club code of conduct
Full-back of Castleford Tigers Owen Richards is under the fury of sanctions for violating club’s code of discipline.
Tigers’ new coach Ian Millward filed a complaint against the Castleford full-back, for which a hearing was adjourned. However, it was unanimously agreed that the sanction proposed for the offender will be kept confidential.
According to the statement released by the club on January 4, 2012, “Castleford Tigers can confirm that the club disciplinary panel today considered a complaint by head coach Ian Millward regarding a contravention of the club's code of conduct by first-team
player Richard Owen. The player acknowledged that a serious breach of the code had occurred and the panel agreed appropriate sanctions which for reasons of confidentiality will not be revealed. The club considers this matter closed and Owen will continue with
his playing duties.”
Owen also admitted and said, “My punishment is deserved. I have learned my lessons and will make sure this never happens again.”
Moreover, the player acknowledged that he will be more focused on gaining back his coach’s lost confidence in him. While acknowledging that the fall out on his part may have upset his fellow players and his fans alike, but he is ambitioning to win it back.
It is very important for the Tigers’ player to closely watch anything which he does in near future because according to the reports, his name has been linked to a police investigation which is underway.
The club is going to reserve their comments until finalised decision by the investigatory authority is made. However, that matter will be looked into by the club after the final decision from the authorities.
The 21-year-old full back started his careers with Tigers in 2007. During his stay here with the debuting club, the player has played a total of 72 games at the club. He ran in a total of 34 tries for his franchise taking up his score aggregate to 136 points.
He is regarded as one of the emerging stars in rugby league, who has been enwrapped in controversies in the very start of the new year 2012.
