Linked with a move to Turkish Super Lig giants Fenerbahce, LOSC Lille striker Moussa Sow has reportedly agreed with the club over terms for a new contract that would keep him at the Istanbul side until 2016
In a shocking turn of events, Senegal international, Moussa Sow has agreed terms with Fenerbahce over a move to the Super Lig side this January. The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Sari Kanaryalar for a few months despite Lille’s unwillingness
to let go of the prolific striker.
“It is possible that both Nolan Roux and Moussa Sow play together,” were the words of Lille president Michel Seydoux earlier this week. Les Dogues had only recently signed Nolan Roux from Stade Brestois.
However, many saw the signing as a possible replacement for Sow who had been itching for a move away from Northern France. It now appears that the Senegal international is one the verge of completing a big-money move to Turkey.
Reports suggest that the player is shortly going to sign a contract of three-and-a-half years with a salary of 2.6 million Euros (apart from bonuses) which would make him one of the highest-paid players in Turkish football.
Reports further claim that LOSC are set to receive 13 million Euros (which include bonuses) for the player whom they signed from Stade Rennais in 2010. The departure of Sow from the club would certainly infuriate Lille supporters.
The sale of Sow does not reflect a great ambition for the end of the season despite Lille’s elimination from the Europe and Coupe de la Ligue. Sow was Lille’s top scorer last season in which Les Dogues lifted the Championelle after a wait over more than
Fans have further criticised the club for taking their chances on Roux who has scored just 4 goals this season. However, what should be kept in mind is the fact that Sow was never a prolific striker before he signed for Lille so Les Dogues fans should be
optimistic of Roux chances of becoming as prolific as Sow this season.
Sow also attracted interest from English Premier League sides but chose to sign for Fenerbahce where he will get a chance of playing in the Champions League or Europa League regularly.
