Moggi tags A.C Milan as favourites for Scudetto and warns Inter not to sign Carlos Tevez

Former Juventus General Director, Luciano Moggi, has tagged Italian Champions, A.C Milan, as favourites for the 2011/12 Serie A season.

Milan won their first Scudetto last season since the 2003/04 season triumph and Moggi is confident that Massimiliano Allegri’s side will defend their crown next season as well. The 74-year-old believes that the Rossoneri will be too good for bitter rivals, Inter Milan, and they will successfully beat them to the title.

Talking to the reporters Moggi said, "Milan's squad, though inferior, are favourites to win the Scudetto next season,"

The former Napoli Director added that Inter are no longer a threat for the Scudetto and they have past their prime. He believes that the team under Jose Mourinho was untouchable but now they are on par with several other teams.

Moggi has warned the Nerazzurri not to sign Manchester City striker, Carlos Tevez, as his role will conflict with the playing style at the club. Recent reports in the media have linked the Argentinean with a move to San Siro and it is even suggested that he is in advanced talks with Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

The Italian believes that Wesley Sneijder’s role is very much similar to the former Manchester United man and his signing would create confusion about selecting a formation.

"I am not sure about the rumours linking Tevez with Inter as even after many years, no one understands what his role is. I think it's best for [Inter president Massimo] Moratti to keep the players he has already."

The title race in the upcoming season will be very entertaining as six or seven teams will be challenging for the top honour. Along with the Milan giants, Napoli, A.S Roma, Lazio and Juventus have also strengthened their squads in the summer transfer window and are looking to finish in the top three next season.

Previously top four Italian sides used to qualify for the group stages of the UEFA Champions League but UEFA have taken away the fourth spot and from the next season only three teams from Italy will go to Europe.
