Michael Hussey rested for upcoming ODI against India – Cricket News Update
Australia’s squad for the 4th match of the Commonwealth Bank Series against India has undergone a minor reshuffle, with selectors confirming that Michael Hussey will be rested for the One-Dayer in Adelaide.
However, the decision is not likely to extend to the remaining matches of the series, with skipper Michael Clarke confirming that the 36-year old will be returning to the team for the 6th match, which will take place on February 17, against Sri
Lanka.
"Mr Cricket having a well earned rest. He will be back for Syd," tweeted Michael Clarke.
The left-hander has been in mediocre form in the ongoing series, scoring 45 runs in Melbourne against India, and 23 against Sri Lanka in Perth.
Hussey is likely to be replaced by Peter Forrest, who may get a chance to make his ODI debut at the Adelaide Oval, after he was left out of the side for the match against the Lankan Lions on Friday. The 26-year old batsman was involved in the Big Bash League,
in which he played for Brisbane Heat.
Another addition to the team is all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who missed the first two matches of the series due to his commitments with Western Australia (who recently played Queensland in a Sheffield Shield match at the Gabba). The 20-year old, who has only
played a single ODI (against South Africa, in October 2011), has a style similar to Daniel Christian, and it remains to be seen whether selectors will play two all-rounders in the same side.
The Aussies, who remain unbeaten in the tri-series so far, will be taking a 12-member team to Adelaide, minus Hussey and paceman Ben Hilfenhaus, who replaced the injured Brett Lee for the ODI against Sri Lanka.
Before the commencement of the series, National selectors confirmed a squad for the first three ODIs alone. The line-up for the remainder of the series is expected to be announced on Monday.
ODI Squad: Michael Clarke (capt), Dan Christian, Xavier Doherty, Peter Forrest, Ryan Harris, David Hussey, Mitchell Marsh, Clint McKay, Ricky Ponting, Mitchell Starc, Matthew Wade (wk), David Warner.
