Manchester City boss, Roberto Mancini admitted that he does not trust the Italian striker, Mario Balotelli.
Mancini, who is facing the heat at the moment after neighbours Manchester United wrestled to the top spot in the league, believed that Balotelli has been inconsistent and one cannot be sure of what to expect from him.
“I don’t think anyone can trust Mario. He could easily score two goals tomorrow or in the next game at Arsenal. But we can’t trust him."
The 47 year old also pointed out the disciplinary problems that the player has got. Even though he acknowledged the talent of the 21 year old striker, Mancini observed that he can let the side down by picking up a red card.
"He is a top player, he can score three goals, but he can also take a red card.”
Mancini reflected that the fiery player has been in the headlines for the wrong reasons and criticized the striker for the Milan episode.
Balotelli bargained into an Inter Milan press conference after parking his Ferrari outside the building. The Italian club had invited the press to unveil the new manager Andrea Stramaccioni, who took over from Claudio Ranieri. The Italian shook hands with
some of the people standing behind the table and left only moments later after wishing the new manager good luck.
However, Mancini admitted that the player remains a crucial part of his side and believed that he can create ripples in the closing stages of the season by scoring five to six goals.
"It’s his job, he needs to work, he needs to rest, but he is young. I just hope he can score five or six important goals in the last eight games.”
City were held 1-1 by Stoke City in their previous league match but Mancini thought that the striker played a better game than the one he did against Chelsea.
On the matter of the striker’s disciplinary breaches, the City boss said that he is still a young player and will gain maturity with time. Mancini went on to say that he could not do much about his antics at Milan, after he had given him two days off.
"I can’t take him and put him in his house for two days! Probably the moment will arrive when he understands what he should do when he has two days off.”
City are vying to win their maiden league title this season and lag behind the league leaders Manchester United by 3 points.
