Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar says he is always learning the game – EPL news

Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has said that he is always learning the tricks and trade of the great game despite announcing that he will retire at the end of the ongoing 2010-11 season of the English Premier League.

The former Fulham goalkeeper looks set to help the Red Devils tighten their grasp on a record 19th League title. The potential success would take Manchester United ahead of Liverpool in the overall title race. The Reds have won a total of 18 titles in their illustrious history but have failed to top the League for the past 21 years.

The Dutchman was included in Professional Footballers Association’s best team this term and despite his impressive show, claims that he is still learning with every minute spent in front of the sticks.

The Manchester United goalkeeper commented, “It is not just during the games, even in training you are always learning. That's very important because every time you step out onto the pitch you have to be on your toes and ready for all the things that can happen.”

Those words could be backed with the veteran’s performances this season. Not only has he been involved in making a couple of ‘vital’ saves that has enabled his team to get some valuable points and grind out results, van der Sar has come through on a ‘consistent’ basis.

Further touching upon a team’s composition to be a mixture of youth and experience, the shot-stopper added, “On the one hand, you have a young player who brings maybe enthusiasm and fresh legs. Then, on the other, you have the experienced guys, who have the knowledge and the composure in important situations.”

Edwin van der Sar has evidently been a safe pair of hands this term. Claiming that he is ‘always learning’ might be an indication of the 40-year-old keeper’s hunger that is by no means extinguished. With that said, could this be the Dutchman’s way of hinting about a possible extension to his marriage with the great game?
