MLB Special: 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training: American League outlook

As the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training session is just about begin, the teams from the American League are being tipped to dominate. Powerhouse clubs like the Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Angels, Texas Rangers and New York Yankees are loaded with talented players and each team is looking to make an impact before the regular season starts.

The following is an American League outlook on the top teams from their Division and what to expect from them during Spring Training.

American League East

The teams to look out for in this Division are of course the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. Both are powerful with immense depth to their line-ups. Players like Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez will be looking to make a strong impact for the Yankees during Spring Training. The Red Sox will also be looking to get their season off to a good start and redeem themselves from last season’s fiasco of having lost a nine-game lead in the final month of the regular season and lose a spot in the postseason. The Yankees are always looming large and have the experience and talent to put on a real show during Spring Training.

The Toronto Blue Jays will also be making an impact during Spring Training as they look focused and will undoubtedly put in some good performances before the start of the regular season. However, for the most part, during Spring Training look for the Red Sox and Yankees to put on a display of their tremendous skills.

American League Central

During the upcoming Spring Training session, teams from this Division that will be putting in a good performance will be the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians. With the recent offseason moves by the Tigers as they acquired slugger Prince Fielder, the team is looking very good to make a strong impact during Spring Training. The Cleveland Indians had a decent regular season last year and they will definitely carry their momentum into Spring Training. The team is loaded with some tremendous talent and their team-work is sublime. However, it seems that the Tigers will under the spotlight as Fielder takes to the field in a Tigers’ uniform for the first time. Detroit will want to finalise their strategy before the regular season begins.

American League West

The Los Angeles Angels and Texas Rangers will come out strong during Spring Training. The Angels have acquired slugger Albert Pujols and pitcher C. J. Lewis to strengthen their line-up. All eyes will be on the Angels as Pujols will look to justify his massive contract. However, the Texas Rangers had a very good season last year as they reached the World Series finals for the second time in two years. Although they were unlucky to not win the title, the team has shown everyone in the League that they have what it takes to go all the way. For the Rangers it is now a matter principle to put in a good Spring Training session and build up some momentum for the regular season.

The Oakland Athletics will also be making some waves during Spring Training as they have signed the young Cuban Yoenis Cespedes and the controversial Manny Ramirez. It will be exciting to see this combination as they take to the field and put on a dazzling show during Spring Training.
