Lee Westwood remains on the top midway through the CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters – Golf News
Lee Westwood continued his great form in the second round of the CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters to retain the midway lead after carding a four-under par 68 on Friday, April 20, 2012.
Westwood had a five-stroke clubhouse lead on Friday evening, when the second round was suspended due to bad weather. However, the lead shrank to two strokes, as the players completed their rounds on Saturday.
Westwood carded a total of four birdies in the bogey-free round and looked really confident while defending his title at the Jakarta Golf Club.
According to him, patience is the key to success on the course. Westwood has experience on the same course, and he is using the knowledge that he gained while playing the tournament last year.
“It was very hot and humid early on and I suffered with that a little bit,” said Briton Westwood.
“It is just one of those things where it can be so hot that you can't replenish the fluids. That's Asia for you. I'm going to have to fluid up this afternoon,” added the Englishman, who finished third at the Masters earlier this month.
He said that winds did not affect his game on Friday. However, the pins were difficult to approach, as they were placed in difficult positions.
In addition to that, the greens were so tricky that they needed huge breaks to make successful putts.
“You want to be leading tournaments and I obviously got the hang of playing on this golf course. More importantly, I was patient and I didn't force things to happen,” said Westwood.
If he manages to defend his title successfully in the second edition of the tournament, he will reclaim the top position in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Meanwhile, Zaw Moe recorded the best round of the day, as he managed to score five birdies and a spectacular eagle against two bogeys to settle for five-under par 67.
He took the second place with a nine-under par in the 36-hole round. Masanori Kobayashi was a stroke back to take the third spot on the leaderboard.
