Kristyna Pliskova crushes Luksika Kumkhum to book a spot in the main draw - Malaysian Open 2012
Czech Republic’s booming starlet, Kristyna Pliskova, gusted away the 18-years-old Thai participant, Luksika Kumkhum, to book a berth in the main draw of the BMW Malaysian Open on Monday. She took just 80 minutes to plonk
her in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
Previously, she had defeated the Thai contestant in the Australian Open (juniors) third round clash in 2010 and this victory doubled her head-to-head lead over her. The Thai contestant is yet to get off the mark against Pliskova.
Later in the day, the Czech’s twin sister, Karolina Pliskova, also made her way into the main round; dumping the Romanian competitor, Elena Bogdan, in straight sets.
Pliskova kicked-off with a successful serve hold at the hard courts of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She thrashed her opponent in the following game; breaking her serve and lead the scores 2-0. Soon afterwards, she tripled the
lead with a comprehensive serve hold and made it extremely difficult for her opponent to take anything away from her.
Finally, the Thai teen managed a serve hold in the fourth game and the scores kept ticking over. Kumkhum was running short of games and her inability to exert pressure on her opponent was making it harder to break a serve.
She couldn’t recover from the early setback and lost the opening set.
She started the second set with a commanding hold of serve and had her opponent under pressure in the following game but couldn’t sneak away with a breakthrough. An onslaught from the Czech witnessed a cracking display of
forehand down the line winners. He smashed five aces in her two successive serve games to stamp her authority with scores progressing to 3-3.
Kumkhum was under the cosh and failed to deliver in pressure situation; lost the serve game and trailed 3-4 in the second half of the match. Pliskova continued to hammer her and didn’t allow her to sneak near to a breakpoint.
Just a single opportunity was allotted to the Thai to break serve and she swallowed it; lost the match.
Pliskova joins in the list of the successful qualifiers that includes Su-Wei Hsieh, Nudnida Luangnam and her twin sister, Karolina.
