Krishnamachari Srikkanth wants Team India to emulate former World Champions Australia

The Chairman of the Indian selection committee, Krishnamachari Srikkanth, wants his team to retain their top ranking in the world of cricket after the Men in Blue won their second ever ICC world cup, this year in April, after nearly 30-years.

Srikkanth also wants the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led India to dominate the world of cricket for a long time, just the way their predecessor, Australia, did for over a decade.

The selection committee’s Chariman is extremely satisfied by the national team’s form and has high hopes for the side to do well in the upcoming tournaments against cricket’s power houses, Australia and England.

Talking to a group of media men, he said, “We have two good tours coming up soon with England and Australia. And it would be an excellent experience to win on the foreign soil, like true world champions.”

The Chairman also praised the courageous show by the younger players currently taking part in the one-day series against the West Indies in the Caribbean.

India, who are without big names such as Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Zaheer Khan and Yuvraj Singh, have beaten the home side in the first two encounters under the leadership of Suresh Raina.

In both the fixtures, India once again exhibited their batting dominance and showed that even without their main players they still have a formidable backup within their ranks to take down any opposition.

However, Srikkanth refrained from comparing the outcome of the same Indian side against a better opposition, as the chief selector believes that the important thing is that the team is performing when it matters.

Giving his views about the possible retirement of the aging players, he reiterated that although players like Sachin can never be replaced, nonetheless, the Indian team has an impressive brigade of backup players who will be injected in to the national team, once the old players start taking their final bows.

He however, admitted that during the transitional period, the team might be a bit vulnerable.

The selection committee’s Chairman held the Indian skipper, MS Dhoni, in high esteem and praised the way he has been leading the national team.

“Dhoni has his own simple way of handling things, and that is the best part of him as a cricketer as well as a captain,” said the 51-year-old Madras born, former Indian batsman.
