Kharja advises Gilardino not move to Genoa and blasts his former club for lacking ambition

Fiorentina midfielder, Houssine Kharja, has advised his teammate, Alberto Gilardino, not to join Genoa.

Kharja recently completed his move to Fiorentina from Genoa and has blasted his old club for lacking ambition. Gilardino is heavily linked with a move to the Marassi side but Kharja believes that he would ruin his career if he joins the Rossoblu.

The 28-year-old added that the Marassi club is not at all competitive as compared to Fiorentina and he is lucky to have switched sides. The midfielder claimed that he is really happy to leave the Stadio Luigi Ferraris and does not miss a single thing about the club.

“I hope Gilardino stays. I will only tell him that Fiorentina are superior to Genoa. If a player has ambitions for something better, then he cannot think of Genoa, as they are not competitive. There is something very wrong about the whole idea, although obviously the decision is up to him. I do not miss anything about Genoa. I started well, but then the knee injury made it all more complicated.”

Kharja added that apart from injury problems, the fans had issues with him and they never backed him. The Moroccan international suffered a career threatening knee injury soon after joining the Griffin club and could never establish himself as a first team starter.

“Along with a few fitness problems, I did not manage to satisfy the fans and they couldn’t be bothered to wait for my full recovery. Thank goodness! At least that opened the doors for me to join Inter and then Fiorentina.”

Kharja joined Genoa from Siena in 2009 but managed to make only 20 appearances for the club before being loaned out to Inter Milan in the January transfer window of 2011. After being released by the Nerazzurri at the end of the 2010/11 season, Fiorentina signed him in an approximately 3-million-Euros deal.

The midfielder is looking forward to the 2011/12 season and wants to become a regular member in the Viola setup.
