KRL Demolish Lahore Ravi in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 8th Round

KRL defeated Lahore Ravi by 9 wickets in the 8th round of the Quaid e Azam Trophy 2010-11 division two at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground. KRL is one of the strongest teams of division two and are competing with the State Bank of Pakistan for the top slot. On the other hand, Lahore Ravi has had a mixed Quaid e Azam Trophy but right now it is at number 7 on the points table, just above Hyderabad, Peshawar and Quetta.

Fahad ul Haq won the toss for Lahore Ravi and decided to field first on a green track that had a lot of moisture in it. The decision turned out to be a good one as at one stage KRL was in big trouble with 5 wickets down for only 113 runs on the board. But because of some late-order resistance, KRL was able to post 247 runs on the board. Sialkot born middle-order batsman, Ali Khan was the star for KRL as he scored 85 runs off 119 balls under trying circumstances. His innings included 10 fours and a six. Test cricketer, Ali Naqvi also scored a half-century while opening the innings.

Test discarded fast bowler, Shabbir Ahmed impressed with his firy spell as he grabbed a 5-wicket haul for the home team after conceding 57 runs. Asif Ashfaq and Asif Raza picked up a couple of wickets each.

In reply, Lahore Ravi came up with a dismal batting effort in the 1st innings as the whole team was dismissed for only 75 runs in 31.3 overs. Left handed Asif Raza was the top-scorer for the home team with 28 runs. Apart from Asif, only Zeeshan Ali was able to score in double-digits as he made 22 runs. As a result KRL took a 1st innings lead of 172 runs and enforced the follow on.

Yasir Arafat was responsible for destructing the batting lineup of Lahore Ravi with 4 crucial wickets. Muhammad Irfan and Rahat Ali also grabbed 3 wickets each for KRL.

Following on, Lahore Ravi came up with a better batting display in the 2nd innings and scored 217 runs. Right handed opener, Abid Ali shined this time for Lahore Ravi with a well-made 68 off only 89 balls. He struck 12 fours in his innings which saved the face for Lahore Ravi. Asif Yousaf scored a dashing innings of 48 runs which included 10 fours.

Rahat Ali took 4 wickets in the 2nd innings for KRL, whereas, Akhtar Ayub and Muhammad Irfan picked up 3 and 2 wickets respectively. Yasir Arafat was only able to pick up 1 scalp in the 2nd innings.

KRL needed only 46 runs to win the match in the last innings which it achieved for the loss of only 1 wicket which came in the shape of Saeed Anwar Jnr who was caught by Imran Haider off the bowling of Asif Ashfaq.

KRL has 39 points so far and is just 3 points behind State Bank but KRL is the favorite team to top the division two as it has played 1 match less than State Bank.
