  • Juan Arango can surpass Gunter Netzer as a player: Rainer Bonhof

The Borussia Monchengladbach Vice-President reckons that his attacking midfielder is far better than the Foals’ legend.

Rainer Bonhof believes that Juan Arango is one of the most exciting prospects in Germany at the moment and has rated him better than retired midfielder, Gunter Netzer.

He reckons that the 31-year-old is a naturally gifted individual, and Gladbach are extremely lucky to have him in their squad. He opines that Arango will be a much bigger player than Netzer once he parts ways with the Borussia-Park outfit.

Arango has been in phenomenal form this season for the Foals, and has so far netted four goals and has accumulated nine assists from 21 league appearances. This is one reason that Monchengladbach find themselves only three points short of current leaders, Borussia Dortmund.

On the other hand, Netzer spent 10 years with Gladbach’s senior side, leading them to two Bundesliga titles in 1970 and 1971. He managed to score 108 times for the club during his 297 league appearances. Arango, though, has so far not managed to achieve anything of note with the Foals, but his recent form could certainly lead them into the next year’s UEFA Champions League.

While talking to sports website, bild.com, the Vice-President further added:

"I have not seen anyone with better feet than Juan. What he does with the ball is insane. The feeling, the touch, the genius, they're even better than [those of] Netzer!"

On the other hand, Gladbach sporting director, Max Eberl, also reserved applause for Arango. He stated that the Venezuelan has certainly developed significantly as a player and his performances could be vital in determining the club’s position at the end of the season.

“He has helped our club tremendously: in two and a half years with us he has been involved in nearly 40 goals - that speaks for itself," Eberl added.

Arango recently signed a new deal with The Foals until 2014 which is a clear indication of the player’s affection for the club. While talking to bild.com, the attacker concluded, "I recently saw a report on Spanish TV in which Gladbach was called Germany's Barcelona. For me this was the final confirmation that I am at the right club."

Gladbach are currently third on the league standings with 43 points and will next take on Kaiserslautern on Saturday, February 18, in the Bundesliga.
