Kevin Gameiro and former Paris Saint-Germain striker Mevlut Erdinc have heaped praise on goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu who has been a revelation since joining the club from Palermo last summer

Within a few months, Italy international, Salvatore Sirigu has captured the imagination of Paris Saint-Germain fans and players alike.

The shot-stopper signed for Les Parisiens last summer from Italian Serie A side US Citta di Palermo. However, things could have been entirely different had Nicolas Douchez not been injured.

The former Stade Rennais man injured himself last summer and sporting director Leonardo brought in Sirigu. The Italian surprisingly filled in well for Douchez. Despite returning to fitness, Douchez failed to displace Sirigu in the PSG starting XI and was confined to only Europa League and cup competitions.

PSG paid Palermo just 3.5 million Euros for the services of Sirigu who has proven to be one of the finest goalkeepers in France and possibly in Europe.

PSG currently boast the best defence in Ligue 1 with just 19 goals conceded in 22 games. Much of this is credited to Sirigu who has made some truly magnificent saves.

While talking to L’Equipe, striker Kevin Gameiro heaped praise on the Italian and said that Sirigu is the best goalkeeper in Ligue 1.

Mevlut Erdinç, who recently left for Stade Rennais, is also a big fan of the shot-stopper and said that Sirigu always had a lot of time for him and always encouraged him.

“He is a good partner. Sometimes, he saw me said and would say, ‘we need you to be tough, you need to believe in your qualities,” said the Turk.

The Sardinian also received a lot of praise from Javier Pastore who said that he always relied on Sirigu’s advice when at Palermo and still does.

Italian football legend, Dino Zoff is also convinced of the 25-year-old’s qualities.

“Sirigu is an exceptional keeper. He takes pride in his success in France and the satisfaction of bringing credit to the Italian goalkeeping academies. His departure from Italy was a loss for the Serie A,” concluded Zoff who is certain that the former Palermo has a great future ahead of him.
