Is Arsenal incomplete without their captain Cesc Fabregas? (Part 2)

Two years ago Barcelona were to face Arsenal again in the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League. Back then Arsenal were definitely not very experienced and were still trying to make their way to the top. Even though Barcelona went 0-2 up at the Emirates with the help of two goals that came from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Arsenal still managed to draw the game in their home ground. Arsene Wenger introduced a young winger Theo Walcott and the Englishman easily ran past the Barcelona defence to get the first goal of the game. With a few minutes remaining, a pass from Walcott found Cesc Fabregas in a goal scoring position and after a block from Carles Puyol, the Spanish midfielder was taken down which resulted in a red card for Puyol. Fabregas took the penalty himself, found the back of the net and helped his team draw the game 2-2 in their home ground the Emirates.

With Arsenal going to the Nou Camp after conceding two goals, it was expected that the Catalan Giants would win. Even though Arsenal were not considered to be the favourites to win the game, Nicklas Bendtner scored the first goal of the game to give his side a 0-1 lead away from home. The crowd sitting in the Nou Camp looked to be shattered as they saw the ball rushing past their goal stopper Victor Valdes. However, their saviour and their messiah Lionel Messi was present on that pitch. The Argentinean maestro singlehandedly took control of the game and scored four goals to give his best performance of that season.

Arsenal this year managed to beat Barcelona 2-1 at the Emirates stadium. Barcelona are now to get ready for the North London side as the next fixture is to take place in the Nou Camp. With Gerard Pique out and Carles Puyol suffering from an injury along with Victor Valdes, the Catalan Giants are definitely going to have troubles at the back. However, with a player like Lionel Messi on the pitch, there is no doubt that anything can happen.

Even though Arsenal have won their tie against Barcelona and proved themselves to the world that they are no longer immature football players. The question is whether they can survive without their fire power and their captain Cesc Fabregas. This is a question that is to be answered as Arsenal are going to play Birmingham City in the final match of the Carling Cup. As the North London side faced Stoke City during the midweek, the team took two crucial blows as their ultra quick winger Theo Walcott and their captain Cesc Fabregas both had to conclude their game earlier than all the other players.

Compared to how Arsenal played against Barcelona, there is no doubt that the North London side can easily survive without their captain. There are suitable replacements for everyone in the club and now Arsene Wenger can safely say that he has players that are good enough to perform in the first team. Yohan Djourou and Laurent Kosieleny can easily play in the centre back position even with Thomas Vermaelen out of action for indefinite amount of time. In the right back role Wenger can easily rely on Eboue who did a fairly good job against Barcelona with Barcary Sagna suspended.
