Inter Milan vs. Parma FC: Douglas Maicon and Thiago Motta dropped – Serie A Update

Inter Milan have decided to drop Douglas Maicon, Thiago Motta and Ivan Cordoba for their trip to Stadio Ennio Tardini tonight, April 16, to face Parma FC. The decision is surprising for the team as well as the fans, who were looking forward to a strong 1st team squad for the match.

The Nerazzurri squad is looking forward to making a comeback in the Scudetto race after the recent run of humiliating results. Inter were humiliated in the Derby della Madonnina by bitter city rivals, AC Milan, losing the clash 3-0. The derby defeat was followed by a disappointing end to the UEFA Champions League run, as Schalke 04 thrashed the Serpent 7-3 on aggregate to seal the Italians’ farewell.

The recent defeats have led to a lot of criticism and suggestions. The idea was to improve a brittle defence; fresh blood is required to revamp the back of the field. Leonardo Araujo, the head coach, will be travelling without the services of several star players.

Maicon and Motta, despite being in top physical condition, have both been dropped from the squad for ‘technical reasons’. The tactician, who is already in the midst of a lot of controversies, has decided against justifying his decision to a curious media and a shocked fan base.

Walter Samuel is yet to completely recover from a knee surgery and his absence his confirmed. Ivan Cordoba will also miss the tie as the Colombian had his left knee operated on, rendering him out for the coming few weeks. The player is unlikely to play again in the ongoing season.

The absence of Cordoba would probably put the Captain, Javier Zanetti, in the right-back position and leave Esteban Cambiasso and Houssine Kharja to cover up in the midfield. Dejan Stankovic has recovered from the injury he suffered against Schalke and is likely to be seen in action tonight.

Called up players: Julio Cesar, Castellazzi, Orlandoni; Javier Zanetti, Lucio, Ranocchia, Materazzi, Chivu, Faraoni, Nagatomo; Stankovic, Wesley Sneijder, Kharja, Mariga, Esteban Cambiasso, Joel Obi, Coutinho, Giampaolo Pazzini, Samuel Eto'o, Diego Milito, Goran Pandev.
